To expand on what I've written before, here's some more information as to the psychology of each clan and information about favoured stats / clan disciplines, etc.

DAEVA:

Lusty and sensual, Deava are often called Succubi by fellow vampires. They seduce, charm and lure their victims to a sensual fate. Daeva are drawn to beauty and blood, happily moving in both social and political circles, and like to think of themselves as sensualists who appreciate the best of the world's passions - but this is an artificial passion. Over time, the Daeva manipulate so much that their true attachment to people dwindles. Emotions and feelings become nothing more than tools to exploit and imitate.

Daeva are often "surpassingly beautiful", and certainly in tune with trends and fashion, and try to embrace within similar circles.

Social attributes and skills are prime concerns, especially persuation and seduction. Social Merits are also common. Dexterity and Manipulation are the favoured attributes.

Clan Disciplines = Celerity, Majesty, Vigor.

Weakness - Daeva are hedonists. Any time they have an opportunity to indulge in their Vice and do not do so, they loose two points of Willpower.

GANGREL:

Noble savages, Gangrel often seek to sever ties with their mortal lives upon the Embrace. While some may prefer the counsel of animals and beasts, they value their humanity, recognising it's value as part of their new existance and how it is intertwined with the Beast. As such, they can often be introspective and recognise unique insights into the Kindred's condition. And although some of the wisest vampires of all are Gangrel, they do not follow traditional academic persuits or theories, prefering to fill the role of yogis, medicine men, etc. First hand experience is key, making the clan as invaluable as it is dangerous and frank.

Nickname - Savages.

Gangrel are often unconcered about appearance, prefering function over form - rarely clad in anything that restricts movement. Gangrel often embrace those who display a survival instinct and strength of body and mind.

Gangrel know their limits, and often seek to improve their "best" skills first. Gangrel are rarely strong in social skills, prefering an even mix of physical and mental - maybe a little more physical being the norm. Composure or Stamina are the favoured attributes.

Clan Disciplines - Animalism, Protean, Resilience.

Weakness - Gangrel are closely tied to the Beast. The 10-again rule does not apply to dice pools based on intelligence and wits, and any 1's that occur in these rolls subtract from successes. This does NOT apply to dice pools involving perception or reaction to surprise, or Resolve.

MEKHET:

Knows as Shadows, the Mekhet are shrouded in darkness. This hallmarks their stealth and wisdowm. Despite being born of darkness, they interpret this darkness in many ways. Some become masters of the night, making a place for themselves within the aristocracy. Some skulk in shadows, ready to attack or steal. Others are artistic, reflecting upon a personal darkness. More carry secrets, searching for hidden knowledge. They may be murderers or philosophers, or anything in between. Mekhets display finesse in whatever they choose to do. Rather than brawl, they are more likely to know a beautiful fighting style. Rather than break and enter, they find their way in through grace or invisibility. Mekhets consider themselves to be the paragons of the vampiric state and hone their skills until they are almost second nature.

Mekhets don't have a uniform appearance. While some may dress in black or clothing that allows them to merge with the background, others dress in ordinary mortal fashions to blend in with the crowd. Some may even hide within a particular subculture. Mekhets are embraced from all walks of life, but normally have a physical or metaphorical darkness, such as a pained soul or thirst for knowledge.

Traits that best assist the Mekhets in furthering their passion or cause are favoured. It depends on their personality. Intelligence or Wits are the favoured attributes.

Clan Disciplines - Auspex, Celerity, Obfuscate.

Weakness - Mekhet are sensitive to light - Moreso than other vampires. Whenever they take damage from sunlight or fire, they suffer an additional point of aggrivated damage.

NOSFERATU:

The Haunts, Nosferatu are the most disturbing of the undead. Somehow changed by their embrace, a physical manifestation of wrongness eminates from these creatures. They move into darkness that even the Mekhet hide from, and even cause fear in other vampires. Nosferatu have incredible powers of stealth, terrifying strength and emody a monstrous destructive force. Many Nosferatu mask their loneliness and resentment behind indifference, scoffing at those who recoil from them, and belittling silly political games, all the while seeting at their exclusion. Due to the inability to blend in, they often dwell in places others shun, and use influence to manipulate events from affar. Some Nosferatu become as alien as their appearance, while others become uncommonly well-mannered to compensate. They often play politics, and are known as purveyors of information. Their supernatural powers make them foes to be reckoned with, but they also hold ancient lore than rivals anything preserved by the Ventrue or Mekhet. The Haunts know that if someone won't tell them what they want to know, they can scare them into it - this terror makes them valuable.

No two Nosferatu look the same - the curse often manifests itself physically, causing them to look horrific. Some may look like the traditional ugly vampire - mouthfulls of fangs, sunken eyes, leathery skin. Others may look diseased or corpse-like, rotting away or covered in puss-filled sores. Some are more unusually unsettling - They look normal, but carry a repulsive stench of vomit and an air of unease, or have a voice that doesn't seem to come from their body. There are as many variations as the imagination can hold. Nosferatu are often embraced from the castoffs of society, although some are embraced to punish vanity.

Physical and Mental attributes are much more useful here than Social. Nosferatu often use skills such as Stealth and Survival. Contacts are often useful for gaining information. Composure and Strength are the favoured attributes.

Clan Disciplines - Nightmare, Obfuscate, Vigor

Weakness - Nosferatu are repulsive and uncomfortable to be around. The 10-again rule does not apply to dice pools based on Presence or Manipulation, and any 1's that occure subtract from success. This does not apply to Intimidation rolls or Composure.

VENTRUE:

The Lords, the Ventrue demand to control everything. They see themselves as the aristocracy of the Kindred world and thirst for power. Ventrue learn to command other beings almost by instinct, be they mortal, animal or Kindred. The mastery of animals harks back to when the Lord was a master of beasts and men. Although not always skilled in combat, they put their supernatural gifts towards acquisition of what they see as real power - Money, property, stock, contacts, rank, and mortals in all levels of society bowing to their every whim. They see Kindred society as feudal and take this seriously, often believing they are destined for greatness even before the embrace.

Ventrue dress conservatively, expressing high status without being flashy like the Daeva. Some adopt "historical" styles, especially in Court or at their havens. They surround themselves with symbols of their wealth and power. A Ventrue may well be rich before the embrace, as new childer are selected from the ranks of Professionals or high society.

Ventrue favour Social attributes and skills - anything for leadership - although mental skills such as politics and academics are useful. They excel at social merits such as resources, contacts and status. Presence and Resolve are the favoured attributes.

Clan Disciplines - Animalism, Dominate, Resilience.

Weakness - The Ventrue are slowly driven mad by their desire for power. They become paranoid, wary of rival's desires, or obsessed with obtaining even the smallest jot of new power. They suffer a -2 penalty to all Humainty rolls to avoid acquiring derangements after a failed degeneration roll.

BASIC INFORMATION ON WHAT THE DISCIPLINES ARE:

Animalism: Control and communication with animals. Most kindred are repellent to animals. Uses range from understanding and talking with animals, commanding animals, summoning creatures, possessing a creature, controlling the Beast.

Auspex: Heightened sensory capabilities. Uses range from heightened senses, Aura Perception, The ability to pick up information simply by touching an object, Telepathy, Creation of a "ghost body" similar to Astral Travelling.

Celerity: Superior reflexive speed that can increase initiative, defence, and the ability to close distances. Doesn't effect attacking.

Dominate: The power to overwhelm minds. Works better on Mortals than Vampires. Uses are a one-word Command that must be obeyed, Hypnotic Meserize, causing the victim to forget things, Conditioning, total possession.

Majesty: The control of emotions of others, works best on Mortals. Uses are the ability to inspire Awe in others, cause others to release a deep personal Revelation or secret, Entrancement of a subject to do your will, Summoning a subject from anywhere who will do their best to travel to you as fast as they can (within reason), Sovereignty - a power which augments personal deportment to incredible levels.

Nightmare: The power of fear. Uses are creation of a monstrous countenance, inspiration of dread, displaying the Beast to an onlooker, cause fear at such a level that it caused injury.

Obfuscate: The power to hide / invisibility. Uses are concealment of a small item, concealment of vampire nature, fade from sight, assume to image of whomever the subject most expects to see, group invisibility.

Protean: Metamorphosis and transformation. Uses are projection of predatory ferocity, blend form with natural substances, create supernatural claws, assume form of a beast, transform into mist.

Resilience: Ability to withstand even more damage.

Vigor: Preternatural strength.

There are other Disciplines that can be learned, and some disciplines can be used together to form devotions - but you will learn about those as you start to play.

Hi Paul, when are we going to play Cthulhu ?

My pirate name is:

Dirty Tom Kidd

You're the pirate everyone else wants to throw
in the ocean -- not to get rid of you, you
understand; just to get rid of the smell. Even
though you're not always the traditional
swaggering gallant, your steadiness and
planning make you a fine, reliable pirate. Arr!

Cthulhu enquiries should be addressed to the Cthulhu forum, and written in blood on a live goat's hide.
